Term 2 2014 WEDNESDAY TRAILS & RESOURCES!! Trail 1 - Efficiency in a world gone madThis trail is all about making the world a more efficient place. We will be looking at how two companies are looking to make Melbourne more efficient.We will first visit Prahran to visit a cool company called CARNEXTDOOR and we will find out how they are changing the attitudes of Melbournians to car ownership.We will do some surveying in the CBD and finally we'll visit the DEGRAVES STREET RECYCLING PLANT - where the restaurants are choosing to recycle together.We'll have a wonderful day and learn lots about how Melbourne is becoming more sustainable.
Join me on a trail which takes us into the home of Helen & James, residents of Elsternwick who have had a sustainable make over on their house. They have succeeded in creating a home that uses almost ZERO greenhouse gas emissions. Learn about their green oasis & edible garden, water use, passive heating & cooling, glazing & windows, energy use, paints, finishes & floor coverings, waste disposal & travel.
Following the sustainable house visit we will travel down to St Kilda & meet Hugh at the Veg Out gardens & learn about community gardening.

Trail 3: Stuff & Nonsense, a new approach to our leftovers!
Our trail is all about rethinking waste and trying to minimise how much STUFF we generate! We will be meeting with two of Melbourne's most interesting innovators: Tamara DiMattina, the founder of Buy Nothing New Month & The New Joneses, and Terry Teoh one of the founders of Melbourne's Urban Orchard, a collective that enables people to share the excess bounty from their gardens. We will travel to Abbotsford and on to CERES in Brunswick, where we will have time to explore the market and audit the park on their sustainable design.
Be prepared to audit your home & bring in 1 item that deserves a new person to love & use it well :) We will have a swap-fest during the day!
